The deadline for bids in the two tenders for offshore wind farms in the North Sea and Kattegat was 20 May 2026. Following the evaluation of the bids received, Vattenfall has been awarded both projects and will build both the North Sea Mid and Hesselø offshore wind farms, which will have a combined capacity of at least 1.8 GW of green electricity.
“This is a huge day for Denmark’s freedom. With these two offshore wind farms, we are strengthening our independence from unpredictable regimes, securing greener and cheaper electricity for all Danes, enhancing the competitiveness of Danish businesses, and creating many green jobs. More specifically, we are securing green electricity equivalent to the consumption of 1.8 million Danish households. The fight against climate change is also a fight for freedom, and I promise that we will continue that fight in the work ahead,” says Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Samira Nawa.
The offshore wind farms were tendered with the possibility of receiving state aid, and Vattenfall has been awarded both tenders by submitting the lowest prices among the bids received: 67,6 EUR/MWh for the North Sea Mid Offshore Wind Farm and 72,7 EUR/MWh for the Hesselø Offshore Wind Farm.
The tenders were launched in November 2025 on the basis of a broad political agreement between the former government (Socialdemokratiet, Venstre og Moderaterne), and the following parties: Danmarksdemokraterne, Socialistisk Folkeparti, Det Konservative Folkeparti, Enhedslisten, Radikale Venstre and Alternativet.
Following today’s milestone, the next step in the tender process will be to sign contracts with Vattenfall, following the completion of remaining formalities, including verification of documentation and compliance with public procurement requirements.
